Caroline Shaw
Esports Consultant/Prev. Director of Game Operations
Caroline Shaw is a passionate esports professional with experience ranging from competing and leading teams to creating league management infrastructure on a national scale. She is a New England local, having grown up just 45 minutes north of Boston and is currently finishing her online degree in Esports Management through SUNY Canton while continuing her career in esports.
Caroline began her career in esports by applying for an operations internship with the NECC (National Esports Collegiate Conference) in December of 2020 after leading her varsity Overwatch team at Northern Essex Community College (also NECC) to their first championship title in their inaugural season in the league. After being accepted for the position, she quickly climbed the ranks of the company, being hired and placed in charge of the general competitive operations and game management staff within a year of being brought on. As of 2023, she has stepped back from her full-time position as Director of Game Operations in order to finish her degree, but continues to assist the company by consulting current staff and members, helping on backend projects, and advocating and networking for the league as well as working part-time as a broadcast observer and serving on the Competition Committee.
In her over two years of working with the NECC, Ms. Shaw has built experience in talent acquisition and management; hiring, onboarding, training, and management of multiple staff teams; ruleset and scheduling management; tournament planning and administration; online and in-person event planning; broadcast production and observing; and Discord and community management. Some of her greatest accomplishments in this time have been running the first NECC Nationals tournament, building out a game management internship program, and planning the NECC's first conference championship LAN event. However, what brings her the most pride is seeing the aspiring esports professionals that she has helped mentor achieve their dreams and knowing that she has made a positive impact and served as a positive role model in the esports space (especially for other young women).
Caroline grew up playing video games and has considered herself a "gamer" most of her life even before choosing it as a career path. Outside of work she enjoys playing both video games like Overwatch(2) and Smite and tabletop games like Hero Realms, 7 Wonders, and of course D&D. She also loves to travel, try new foods and drinks, and attend events such as renaissance faires, LAN competitions, and gaming conferences (like PAX East)!
